On the go home episode of Smackdown Live before Summerslam, Baron Corbin cashed in his Money In The Bank contract. Was the ‘Lone Wolf’ successful?
Baron Corbin Cashes In
The Smackdown Live crowd got an unexpected surprise last night, a Money In The Bank cash in.
The main event for the show was John Cena vs WWE Champion Jinder Mahal. This was the first time the two had clashed since Jinders unexpected WWE Championship run began. Jinder tried to take advantage of the numbers game early during the match. The Singh brothers were up to their mischief as usual but didn’t have as much luck as usual. Referee Mike Chioda spotted their shenanigans and sent them packing to the locker room.
With Jinder left all alone facing the 16-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion, he didn’t have much of a chance. Cena sealed a victory with an avalanche Attitude Adjustment from the second rope, game over. Cena pins the WWE Champion.
As Jinder lay almost motionless, Cena stood tall to celebrate but it was cut short. Enter Mr Money In The Bank, Baron Corbin. The briefcase holder appeared from the crowd and nailed Cena with the case. Now Corbin was standing in the ring with a referee and an incapacitated WWE Champion. Cash in time.
Corbin demands Chioda confirms the cash in. The bell sounds, are the plans for Summerslam about to have major changes?
The Failed Cash In of The Lone Wolf
Corbin followed the blue print of the perfect cash in. The Champion is down and seemingly out, no one around and he is fresh. A certainty he would be the new WWE Champion, or so we thought.
Almost immediately after hearing the bell, John Cena was back to his feet and tried to get to Corbin. Baron knocked him off the apron but was made to pay for the distraction. ‘The Maharaja’ was up and managed to hobble over and roll up his challenger. The count sounded off around the arena 1,2,3. Jinder Mahal retains the WWE Championship and will still defend against Shinsuke Nakamura this Sunday. Baron Corbin? Has added his name to a very short list of unsuccessful Money In The Bank cash ins.
History was made by ‘The Lone Wolf’ on Smackdown Live, but it was not what he had intended. Corbin will face John Cena at Summerslam and with the mood he is now in, this match is going to intense and ugly.
